Catalysts and the products made with them are all around us, even though most people know neither what a catalyst is nor what functions catalysts perform. Virtually every polymer is made with a catalytic process, as are a multitude of other chemicals ranging from pharmaceuticals to pesticides.

This report, an update of a 1995-96 BCC report, will describe the compounds, products, and markets for catalysts used in chemical and petrochemical reactions/processes done outside of petroleum refineries. It will also describe, in petroleum refining, catalytic processes that take place on process streams to upgrade refinery products.

The report will cover products such as heterogeneous catalysts/supports and homogeneous catalysts, as well as processes, technologies, and the major players that supply catalysts. Emphasis will be placed on new developments and technologies that have come on the scene or been commercialized since the last BCC report.
