Research and analysis highlights

The market difficulties of recent years have resulted in a more clinical approach at a corporate level. Where private banking has been earmarked as "core" this has therefore resulted in increased capital being committed to expansion, and a ramping up of growth initiatives among active players in the market.

Datamonitor believes that these mega-managers will continue to acquire opportunistically around the world in 2005. In an increasingly competitive market, these players have the scale and resources to make acquisitions, which will immediately add a client base and distribution channel and help to create critical mass in new or expanding markets.

Datamonitor doubts that the medium to long-term will witness the creation of a small select breakaway group of 5-6 very large, competitively advantaged global players. Instead Datamonitor anticipates a global market characterized by a more extensive raft of 15-20 or so geographically diversified "global" and multi-region players.
