From an investor's perspective, they typically look for property fund investments that are based in their home market, reflected in the fact that European asset managers believe the majority of funds have been launched from the onshore market in the last 2 years.
Across Europe, asset managers believe that financial advisors are the best way to distribute property funds to the mass market, with the retail bank channel a close 2nd in popularity. 42% of asset manager responses supported the financial advisor channel, while retail banks received 33% of responses.
the institutional client base will remain the dominant customer group for property fund investment across Europe. Whilst client understanding is the main hindrance to further take-up of property investments among the institutional sector, closely followed by other factors such as shortage of supply, product price and regulatory difficulties.
