Sections are included on products, international activities and R&D, as well as a full, in-depth five year financial analysis. An introduction to each report and a full table of contents is provided for review. More than 60 Medical Device Company Intelligence Reports are currently available. Puritan Bennett, based in Pleasanton, California, USA, develops, manufactures and markets speciality medical products designed to sustain breathing for respiratory and critical care patients and treat and diagnose sleep disorders. Its products can be used in hospital, sub-acute and home care settings. The company is currently in the process of relocating its headquarters to Boulder, Colorado, USA.

The company is a leader in the market for ventilators, oxygen therapy products and sleep diagnostic and therapy equipment. Its key brands include the 840 Ventilator, HELiOS oxygen therapy products, KnightStar and GoodKnight sleep therapy devices, and Sandman sleep diagnostic products.

Puritan Bennett became part of Tyco Healthcare as a result of Tyco International's acquisition of Mallinckrodt in 2000. The company had previously been purchased by Nellcor in 1995, when the combined company was renamed Nellcor Puritan Bennett, a title for which it is still recognised. This company was acquired in 1997 by Mallinckrodt. Once Tyco purchased Mallinckrodt, it separated Nellcor Puritan Bennett into the original two companies with separate sales forces, although they continue to share the same headquarters, R&D locations and manufacturing facilities.

Today, Puritan Bennett is part of Covidien, a new independent, publicly-traded company which was previously Tyco International's Healthcare division. Puritan Bennett, in conjunction with Nellcor, makes up Covidien's Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions operations which are part of Covidien's Medical Devices segment.

Covidien's Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions operations were enhanced in 2006 through the acquisition of Airox SA, a French manufacturer of home respiratory ventilation systems, with 2005 revenue of EUR 18 million (approximately US$22 million). The Airox product portfolio added to Covidien's existing ventilator offerings, offered through Puritan Bennett. Airox continues to operate from its headquarters in Pau, France, with no changes in its operating structure planned. The company's products have been added to Covidien's Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions portfolio.
