GPS Phones Draw More User Interest Than PNDs in China Adding a Global Positioning System (GPS) function to mobile phones is a hot topic in 2007, and both leading companies—like Nokia and Motorola—and smaller domestic companies—like Lenovo and Bird—have introduced or will introduce a series of GPS-enabled models this year.

There are, however, some questions surrounding the GPS issue. Will GPS turn out to be a hype concept like PMP, or do consumers really need it? Will the introduction of GPS-enabled handsets threaten China's growing personal navigation device (PND) market?

To better understand the market from the demand side, In-Stat conducted an online survey of 582 mobile users who, at the time of the survey, had no GPS devices.

This report answers a series of questions, including the following:
-What is the Chinese user awareness of and interest in portable navigation devices?
-How much are Chinese users willing to pay for a PND?
-How interested are Chinese users in GPS that is incorporated into other handheld devices?
-How much extra are they willing to pay for GPS that is incorporated into other handheld devices?
