Intense competition among overseas and domestic PMP vendors has caused the average sales price of PMPs to decline dramatically. Combined with improvements in product features, these factors made PMP shipments gain traction in 2006. However, lack of easy access to legitimate video content is an obstacle for PMPs when targeting general consumers rather than tech-savvy, early adopters. In-Stat believes that what can bring PMPs into the mass market in the future is the combination of PMPs with mobile TV.
This report takes an in-depth look at existing video content sites, PMP manufacturers, and component suppliers in China. It includes the results of an In-Stat Chinese consumer survey about purchase considerations of PMPs and consumer usage of PMPs. Finally, it provides five-year forecasts for China's PMP shipments, revenues, and average sales prices, as well as breakdown data by screen size and storage type.
