Following the recent global economic downturn, Asia is fast emerging as the most attractive Contract Electronic Manufacturing (CEM) location. With China and Taiwan already strong in this field, other Asian countries such as India, Thailand, and Vietnam are emerging as strong contenders for low-cost manufacturing of electronic equipment.




The overall CEM market (combined revenues of EMS and ODMs) in Asia was US$73.35 billion in the year 2004, and is expected to grow robustly, at a 17.2% CAGR during 2004-2009. Also, the total CEM and assembly capacity in Asia was estimated to be 92 million square feet in 2005. China by far leads the CEM market in Asia, and the country is expected to show good growth in the coming years.
