In 2006, China's output of set-top box was up to 54.083 million sets, a rise of 40.7% compared to 2005. The fast growth of China STB industry was mainly driven by the exportation of satellite and digital TV set-top boxes. Meanwhile, along with the gradual enforcement of DTV overall transfer strategy, there was also a rising demand of cable digital TV STB. The output in 2005 stood merely at 3.41 million sets, but the figure rose to 8.016 million sets in 2006. In addition, the output of terrestrial digital TV STB increased from 2.3 million sets in 2005 to 4.943 million sets in 2006.

Under the drive of STB industry, the market size of STB chip in China reached RMB9.79 billion in 2006, up by 43.1% compared to 2005. By product structure, decoder, demodulator, tuner and memory chips accumulatively took a large proportion of over 80%. In particular, decoder and memory chips accounted for above 20% respectively.
