Digital telephony in the Netherlands is on track to replace the traditional PSTN or ISDN connection. In the second quarter, the number of residential VoIP subscriptions sold passed the 1 million mark, to reach 1.1 million at the end of June.
To defend and maintain its market leadership KPN gave full throttle to its VoIP services. A couple of months after launching its InternetPlusBellen bundled VoIP and internet service, KPN introduced ?Slim?, a VoIP service targeted at households without a KPN broadband internet connection.
In the battle to become the exclusive provider of telecom services to the customer, Orange now also offers unbundled VoIP services. Looking at the share of customers also buying a VoIP service, the rival ADSL providers are most successful in selling VoIP services, while in absolute numbers the cable operators lead the residential VoIP market. However, KPN is catching up rapidly.
