Egyptian Mobile Market to Triple Subscriber Numbers in Three Years
Data from Wireless World Forum's "Egypt Mobile Market 2006" statistical handbook reveals that the Egyptian mobile market will triple the number of unique subscribers in the country within a period of three years. In 2004 there were 7 million unique owners of mobile phones, by 2007 this number will more than triple to 23 million.
Competition for lower income subscribers, 98% of which are prepaid has led to a downward trend in ARPU which will fall to $11.3 pcm in 2007 (a decline of 12% on the previous year).
Egypt is a relatively low penetration mobile market, only 29% of Egyptians will own a mobile phone in 2007. Continuing to increase the subscriber base represents the best opportunity to achieve growth until 2007 and beyond.
